Teaching Toddler Behaviour – Making Your Toddlers Behaviour Good!
Teaching Toddler Behaviour
When it comes to teaching toddlers good behavioral management skills, many parents often wonder how this can be done. The truth is that it really can be accomplished with consistency and positive feedback to your toddler. It is important not to give up when you are constantly repeating the same things over and over and it appears as though noting is getting through to you toddler. Not to mention the times when your toddler actually does know what he or she is doing, only stops for a few minutes, and then later continues doing the very thing that the parent told him or her not to do.
It is typical for toddlers to act this way whilst teaching toddler behaviour, and this is something that all parents need to be prepared for. It is how you choose to handle the situation that determines the future behavior outcome for your toddler. One of the first rules to remember as the parent is that you must remain calm. You really don’t want to let your toddler see you break a sweat. If your toddler is able to figure out how to cause and effect things, your toddler will quickly go to you “hot” buttons when the child is frustrated to feel better. Avoid giving your toddler this advantage.
Toddlers really take all of their cues from you and if you are flustered your toddler will also become flustered. Toddlers are literally like sponges and they will soak up your mannerisms, actions, and as time goes on your words. That is why it is also important to monitor the words you choose with your toddler and how you say them, as well.
When your toddler does follow directions you should let them know immediately. A physical touch, such as a hug, high five or rub on the toddlers back will communicate to him or her that the toddler’s actions were what the parent wanted. When your toddler acts in an inappropriate manner, stay calm and simply redirect the toddler’s energy some place else. Ultimately, the tone your set during this stage of the toddler’s life will help you in the future to create a positive home environment for your family
