Adhd in Toddlers

Many parents of young children with ADHD are unaware of what steps they can take to minimize the symptoms caused by this disorder. Parenting is an incredibly demanding job in the best of cases and an ADHD child can leave a parent feeling completely helpless.

The following is a list of advice on how you can take some simple steps towards minimizing the disruption caused by ADHD in toddlers.

Get educated. It’s hard to find free time when you have a young child, but do what you can to read everything that you can about ADHD and how to manage it. If you desire, seek professional help from a trained therapist. Knowledge is power. The more you know about ADHD in toddlers, the better off you’ll be and the better off your child will be.

Recognize that you’re not alone. ADHD in children is common. There are many fantastic resources out there for parents in your situation. Join a support group, either online or locally and talk to other parents who are experiencing the same things you are.

Pay attention. You already pay close attention to your child, of course, but be particularly mindful or his or her behavior and the events that trigger changes. Keep a diary and take detailed notes.

Be consistent. The behavior of a child with ADHD can vary wildly from one minute to the next, but your behavior should not. Don’t allow your child to dictate the mood in the room. Be calm and steady and stay consistent in your parenting. Establish some guidelines and stick to them.
